My Brief History of the Cell Phone

Ok… I’m going to totally date myself, but what else is new.   I grew up on the rotary phone.  Yes, the one with the numbers in a circle and finger holes for dialing. The ones you see parents now video and post on YouTube their kids trying to figure out how to use them.   I lived with this same phone through high school, tangles and wrapped cord and all, and I remember the first push button dial we bought.   The thing about those phones is they always worked!  You had to stand in the corner of the kitchen while you talked but that one phone never failed us for years.  When we were bored we would call 811 to get time and temp sponsored by Tallahassee Federal Savings and Loan.  It was beautiful and it was simple.
 
My mom got one of the first cell phones that mounted in her car and we were so amazed that we could talk while driving down the road.  It was a beast of a phone, it was expensive and service was terrible but it was still amazing.   I have to admit my world was officially changed when I discovered I can check the color weather radar before heading out on the water to fish; that was a game changer for me and I began to accept this whole technology thing.  The weather radar was much more reliable than the weather dog.  "If the dog came back wet it was raining, if didn’t come back at all it was windy." It seems, at that moment, technology and the development of the phone went into the stratosphere never to return.  Has it made our lives better?   That is another debate for another time.  It has made things more convenient,  and it has made life more expensive! Everyone in the family has a phone, a data plan, insurance, etc. and they always seem to break or get broken and some have taken a dive in the water. If it's not a shattered screen the damn things just die  -  it's a conspiracy theory in my opinion.    

But since our phones have become a neccessary accessory you know I am going to put artwork on it.  Our phone cases are tough, have a great lip that protects the sides and helps protect the screen and they look great.  Win win in my book.  We've got to protect these delicate and extended members of the family because heaven forbid something happens and we are out of touch for a couple of days.  
 
Although I do see a resurgence of all things old lately I'm afraid the cell phones are here to stay ..... but how I miss my push button phone and all it's simplicity.  I haven’t forgotten the rotary phone, but that is soooo 1980’s.
